May 10, 2012

PTI Secretary General supports petition demanding release of Baba Jan Hunzai.

PTI Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi has pledged complete support for the demand of release of Baba Jan Hunzai and his fellow activists of Labor Party of Pakistan who have been languishing in jail for months during a meeting with Labour Party leader Farooq Tariq. PTI Secretary General strongly condemned alleged torture on Baba Jan Hunzai and his fellow activists saying that the treatment meted out to political activists was clear violation of fundamental human rights.

Dr Alvi said that alleged torture of respected political activists such as Baba Jan Hunzai is in complete contradiction to PPP government’s claim that ‘there are no political prisoners in the country’. He said that the PPP has continually mistreated political activists and the people of Gilgit Baltistan who have been struggling for their political and economic rights.

He said that it was shameful to see political activists such as Baba Jan Hunzai being allegedly subjected to intense torture under the so called ‘democratic’ regime of Pakistan. Furthermore he said that the PPP has completely failed to address genuine grievances of the people of Gilgit Baltistan.

Lastly Dr Alvi has expressed complete support for the petition demanding immediate release of Baba Jan Hunzai and his fellow activists, publish the findings of the judicial inquiry of killing of political activists Afzal Baig and Sher Ullah Baig and compensation for the families affected by the Attabad landslide.
